MC2 will be near the top of the Hill at number 18. It will sell telescopes, binoculars and microscopes and will also stock some videos, CD-ROMs and books on astronomy, science and nature. One of the proprietors is Maggy Edwards, who lives in Catherine Street.
She said: "It is called MC2 after the Einstein equation and also because it is our initials. My partner, Charles Daniell, has been a keen amateur astronomer for years. He has attended a couple of courses at the University of Bath and made his own dome. "I became interested in the stars when I was working in Africa where there is virtually no light pollution and the nights are warm."
Both Maggy and Charles are members of astronomical societies in Beckington and Wiltshire.
Maggy said: "David Heath is going to pop over from his surgery to do the honours on opening day. He has an optics connection and was helpful about getting the Beckington bypass lights changed, which has made a big difference to the amount of light pollution around there."
